What an aircon chemical wash is, how it differs from a standard service, the checks you can do safely, and when to call a technician.
What a chemical wash is
A chemical wash dismantles the fan coil for chemical cleaning. A non-dismantle wash is more surface-level. Both are maintenance, not repair.
How often it is advised
Providers commonly advise servicing about every 4-6 months and a chemical wash less often, about every 12-18 months. Intervals vary by provider and use, so treat these as a guide. A wash is not needed on the same schedule as a routine service.
What it costs
One provider’s published Singapore prices, excluding GST: a non-dismantle wash costs about S$80-100 and a dismantle wash about S$130-180 per unit. Treat this as one provider’s published figure, not a market rate.
Checks you can do safely
Switch the unit off at the isolator before touching anything beyond the filter.
Between washes, providers commonly advise cleaning filters every 2-4 weeks in dusty conditions.
Leave refrigerant, compressor, and electrical work to a qualified technician rather than attempting it yourself.
When to call a technician
A chemical wash is cleaning, not repair, so it does not replace repair work. A leak or a cooling fault found afterwards still needs a technician to fix it. A wash will not fix a leak or a cooling fault.
