How often providers advise aircon servicing and a chemical wash, what you can do between visits, and how a chemical wash differs from a non-dismantle wash.
Chemical wash versus non-dismantle wash
A basic service is different from a chemical wash. A chemical wash dismantles the fan coil for chemical cleaning. A non-dismantle wash is more surface-level.
How often to service
Providers commonly advise professional servicing about every 4-6 months. Providers commonly advise a chemical wash less often, about every 12-18 months. Intervals vary by provider and use, so treat these as a guide rather than a fixed rule.
Checks you can do safely
Switch the unit off at the isolator before touching anything beyond the filter.
Between professional visits, providers commonly advise cleaning the filters every 2-4 weeks in dusty conditions and cleaning the outdoor condenser every 3-6 months.
Leave refrigerant, compressor, and electrical work to a qualified technician rather than attempting it yourself.
When to call a technician
A chemical wash is cleaning, not repair: a leak or cooling fault found afterwards still needs a technician.
